H & M confirms it's entering Louisville market with 27,000-square-foot Oxmoor store

by Terry Boyd

We literally just got off the phone with Oxmoor Center General Manager Jacob Sapperfield about huge changes at the Shelbyville Road mall.

Then, we checked our email seconds ago and saw a confirmation from the Hennes & Mauritz media people in New York: The Stockholm, Sweden-based apparel retailer is opening a huge store at Oxmoor.

This could turn out to be the biggest Louisville retail coup of 2013!

Without further ado, the unedited H & M news release, and more as we know more:

GLOBAL FASHION RETAILER H&M TO OPEN IN LOUISVILLE

27,000 Square Foot Store to Debut in Fall 2013

H&M, Hennes & Mauritz, one of the world’s largest fashion retailers known for offering fashion-forward apparel and quality basics, is thrilled to announce its first location in Louisville proper. The Swedish retailer will debut at Oxmoor Center, the premier shopping, dining and entertainment destination in Louisville.

H&M plans to expand greatly in the southern market in 2013. This new location will offer more shoppers in Kentucky access to the retailer’s collections for the whole family in a brand new 27,000 square foot store. H&M at Oxmoor Center will include collections for ladies, men, young ladies and young men, with separate “store within store” sections for lingerie, maternity, sports apparel and accessories. This location will also carry H&M’s fantastic children’s collection, which features quality clothing for kids ages newborn to 14, as well as H&M’s plus-size line, H&M+.

Since H&M opened its first store on New York’s Fifth Avenue thirteen years ago, the U.S. has been one of the retailer’s most important markets. With its emphasis on expansion, H&M continually seeks out the best properties and locations for its customers. Now offering U.S. consumers access to quality fashions at the best prices through 268 locations across the country, H&M is excited to enter another important U.S. market.

This is the third major 2013 retail coup for Louisville, with Nordstrom Rack announcing a store at Shelbyville Road Plaza, about two miles east of Oxmoor. Dallas-based Cinemark just opened Cinemark Mall St. Matthews last week.

Both Mall St. Matthews and Oxmoor are owned by General Growth Properties, the Chicago-based real estate investment trust.
