Galt House owner/operator serves three shots of new business to Whiskey Row

AJ Schneider Company-owned Galt House

Three new locally-owned restaurants will soon be filling out the rapidly-growing Whiskey Row on Main Street downtown. Al J. Schneider Company – owner/operator of the Galt House Hotel and the Crowne Plaza near the airport –  is tripling-down on its investment in the mini-district with three businesses with very diverse business profiles all located at 321 West Main Street.

Down One Bourbon Bar will be the first to open in mid-February. It will be a “rustic” bar, and true to its name, it will have more than 100 bourbons available (making it eligible to be added to the Urban Bourbon Trail if the bar chooses to meet the other requirements of a Trail stop). Down One will also offer local craft beer, specialty cocktails, and wines by the glass. The bar will also offer food from a second restaurant, 321deli, opening next door.

321deli combines the look and feel of a NYC deli with Southern Charm. In addition to providing food for Down One Bourbon Bar, the deli will offer sandwiches and salads. Food will be available to take out, and according to the news release: “Options include country ham from Kuttawa, Kentucky, triple crème cheese from Normandy, or smoked turkey from Tennessee.”

A third business will help to make Whiskey Row just a little more family-friendly. 2 Dips & a Shake will be an ice cream parlor serving ice cream from the iconic, local ice cream crafters at The Comfy Cow.

All three businesses will be helmed by General Manager Christian Hattemer, from Columbus, Ohio, who has more than 20 years of experience in the restaurant industry and where he served as Executive Chef at the award-winning Milestone229.

According to the news release, Hattemer says he is “very excited to join the vibrant restaurant scene here in Louisville.  Down One Bourbon Bar is going to be a fun, high quality experience.  With our great location right in the heart of downtown, the really unique patio nestled in Magnolia Trees, and all the wonderful people coming to work with us, we will provide a new and dynamic option downtown.”
