Trader Joe’s opening October 28 in Louisville
Insiders tipped off Insider Louisville today that Trader Joe’s will open Friday, October 28.
So, we went to check it out for ourselves, and it’s true.
The shelving and freezer cases are all installed at the space in the Shelbyville Road Plaza shopping Center.
So are the checkout counters.
When we were there, people were filling out job applications, so apparently the Monrovia, Calif.-based chain of specialty food stores now has local employees.
All that’s missing is food and customers.
That will all change the 28th, employees assured us.
And don’t think we weren’t tempted to apply. Trader Joe’s pay at up to $15 per hour these days matches the big manufacturing operations such as Ford and GE, with a lot less stress and noise.
So what’s the big deal for consumers?
All we hear from friends and family is, “When I lived in Atlanta … ” or “When I lived in LA …” followed by how great the store is. The deli. The specialty items such as Greek yogurt and the garlic mustard aoili, whatever that is.
(Sorry, we tried the “Two-Buck Chuck” Charles Shaw wine … no thanks.)
In August, Insider Louisville learned that Trader Joe’s was pushing to get its first Louisville store open in October, with construction crews working around the clock.
We also heard the chain will open a second store, which an employee today called “a rumor.” Our sources have been on the money with everything they’ve told us about Trader Joe’s.
