Chef Dean Corbett launching new radio show on Thursday nights

by Steve Coomes

If you know Dean Corbett, you know he likes to talk, is funny, frank and always informative—the perfect makings of a radio show host.

The indefatigable chef-owner of Equus & Jack’s Lounge, Corbett’s: An American Place, and Chef Deano’s Quality Produce, is adding yet another responsibility to his plate as the host of Chefboyardean on Thursdays from 7-8 p.m. on 1080 AM Talk Radio, WKJK.

This show is long overdue in this restaurant-obsessed town, and there will be no shortage of material since Corbett is approaching 30 years of cooking in Louisville and knows every important restaurateur and chef there is here. He also knows the details of running a successful business, the hurdles that come with it, and he’s passionate about several charitable causes in the city.

“I’m excited as hell about it, and we’ll have a ball,” Corbett said in a text two nights ago. “I’ve got a lot of folks on board with me … and have been getting it ready for months.”

First guests on the show include Pulitzer Prize-winning photographer Dan Dry and me. Yes, me, the boy born with a face for radio.

Corbett said his discussion with me will center on at least one tough question: Can this city support all the new restaurants opening up?

Of course, you have to tune in to learn my thoughts, but suffice it to say, I’m excited to share my take.

So set those smart phone reminders to go off at 7 p.m. every Thursday and tune into Chefboyardean.”
