nye

So you made it through Christmas and are ready for a fresh start in 2015, right? Well, you actually have one more big decision to make: What are you doing for New Year’s Eve? Will you stay home and watch the ball drop from the comfort of your couch? Will you venture out and mingle with strangers? Will you throw down some dough and get a hotel for the night? So many decisions, so little time.

Insider compiled a list of events we endorse — if the mood strikes you to get out and boogie. Remember to be safe, drink responsibly and, if you don’t, call a cab, Uber, Lyft or City Scoot. Happy New Year!

A5 & RYE — A5 and RYE are hosting their first party in their new event space behind Atlantic No. 5 on New Year’s Eve. Tickets are $45 and include party favors, two drinks, a champagne toast, light snacks and dancing to music by DJ Sleepy-T. A cash bar will be available if you really want to get your drink on. The event benefits Best Buddies Kentucky and AIDS Interfaith Ministries and is sponsored by Four Roses bourbon, C&H Audio Visual, In Bloom Again Florist and Yum! Brands Foundation. Tickets will be sold at the door starting at 9 p.m. or can be purchased in advance online at: ryeonmarket.com.

discoBall8UP — Admission of $50 gets you two drink tickets, free appetizers, champagne toast at midnight and music all night long by Night Visions Radio. Of course that spectacular view of the city is free as well. For reservations, call 631-4180 or go to 8uplouisville.com.

Haymarket Whiskey Bar — You gotta love a bar that advertises “No Cover” for its NYE party. That’s just what Haymarket Whiskey Bar is touting — no cover charge, and you get DJ sets by The Pass, Jalin Roze, The Deloreans, White Reaper, Kindred DJs and the Peppermint Boys, as well as live sets from Lady Pyramid, Ted Tyro, Black Birds of Paradise and more. There will also be a balloon drop, champaign specials, a photo booth and more. Party starts at 8 p.m. Click here for more info.

Proof on Main/21c — Proof’s annual NYE party in the Atrium Gallery features music by Glitter Titz DJz, a champaign toast, party favors, lots of dancing and a cash bar, all for $55/person. Hotel and dinner packages are also available. Check out the website, or click here for tickets.

Holy Grale — The holiest of thou beer spots in the Highlands is hosting an Around the World Dinner Party on NYE for those foodie and beer lovers who may choose to shun “the scene.” Dinner includes a six-course menu by Chef Josh Lehman designed to take your taste buds around the world one last time before the new year. Of course there will be beer pairings with each dish, and — rumor has it — there will be a bottomless beer option as well. Another rumor … music will be provided by DJ Laylow and Signifying Wolf (aka Tyler Trotter and Will Oldham). Tickets are $100, and you must RSVP to [email protected] For more info, check out holygralelouisville.com.

Pappy New Year!
Pappy New Year!

Tim Faulkner Gallery — The Tim Faulkner Gallery is having a party that blends music, art, drinks and dance, and we’d expect no less from the Portland warehouse that houses a gallery, bar, coffee shop and artist studios. There’ll be live music by The Debauchees, Jack Holiday and the Westerners, and The Waves, as well as a cash bar, party favors, crazy decorations and much, much more. The cover is TBD at this time, so check out the Facebook event page for up-to-date info.

Bristol Bar & Grille Downtown — Calling all bourbon lovers. The downtown Bristol invites you to their “Pappy New Year” dinner as Chef Ramon Forcelledo pairs a bourbon flight with a four-course menu. For $100/person, you’ll receive a flight that includes one pour of 12-year-old Van Winkle Special Reserve and three of the highly sought after Pappy Van Winkle 15, 20 and 23-year-old batches. Oh, and there’s food, too — delicious food — and seatings are from 5-10 p.m. For more info and to make reservations, call 582-1995.

Headliners Music Hall — Headliners plays host to WFPK’s annual NYE Bash, this year featuring music from James Brown Revue and Thirty Spokes with special guests Carly Johnson, Butch Rice, Skyscraper Stereo and The Tunesmiths. DJs Matt Anthony and Woodrow on the Radio will begin the evening at 9 p.m., and they’ll have all the usual NYE customs, like champaign, a balloon drop and photo booth. Advance tickets are $10, or $12 at the door. Tickets are available here, more info here.

35-atlgZanzabar — This is certainly a unique way to ring in the New Year — jamming to a Devo cover band comprised of members from Louisville’s top bands. The undertaking — entitled “Q: Are We Not Them? A: We Aren’t Devo!” — includes members of Wax Fang, the Deloreans, Lucky Pineapple and Go Mordecai; the group will take the Z-Bar stage together to whip it, whip it good. Admission is $10.
