That sound you hear is the Bourbon Boom continuing to explode.
A new craft distillery in the works in Bardstown, Ky., has joined forces with a national marketing firm and nabbed some big players in the industry to help run the operations.
Mahalo Spirits Group, the marketing group behind Angel’s Envy and Papa’s Pilar Rum, is partnering with the Bardstown Bourbon Company to develop and launch new bourbons and whiskeys at a $25 million state-of-the-art distillery expected to be open by this time next year.
The partnership will be led by a team of industry experts, including Steve Nally, a 40-year veteran of the spirits industry and former Master Distiller of Maker’s Mark, and Alex Bogusky, an expert in brand strategy and consumer insights.
“During my career, I’ve worked with and learned from the best in the business,” said Nally in a news release. “I look forward to creating exciting new brands and making great bourbon. Building this distillery is a dream come true for the bourbon enthusiast. The local area provides us with excellent resources, and we are paying attention to every aspect of production from farm to table.”
The 37,000-square-foot distillery will be located on 100 acres in Bardstown and include a custom-built Vendome still, tours, tastings, a visitor’s center, events space, and eventually a restaurant and boutique hotel. Construction began in October 2014 and is slated to be finished by summer 2016.
Details of the distillery’s first brand will be released later this year.
“We are changing the model for how innovative whiskey and bourbon products will be produced and brought to market,“ said David Mandell, president and CEO of the Bardstown Bourbon Company. “And we’re building an experience in Bardstown unlike anything whiskey enthusiasts have ever experienced.”
