No trolley? No problem … SOFO unofficially joins First Friday Downtown Trolley Hop
(Author’s note: the SOFO PR rep did get back to me, fairly quickly after I emailed her. Unfortunately the online news cycle means that we get a scoop and post it ASAP. And she just didn’t get back to me before the story posted.
She said: “I misunderstood and thought that South Fourth Street was already part of the Trolley Hop but we are not yet. We are working with the DDC to hopefully become a part of it. I just found this out and I apologize for the confusion and wrong information.”
And that’s A-Okay. Still, folks, wander up to SOFO during the Trolley Hop, you won’t be sorry. There are some really fantastic local businesses there.
Keith Brooks also emailed me and asked that I add that Republic Bank as the named sponsor for the Hop. I’m sorry I omitted that.
We may have been quick to point out the error, but other news outlets ran with the story, including Louisville.com.)
It’s a lesson in “always follow up,” folks.
The original first line of this article was: This month, the South Fourth Street Retail Business District, joins the Republic Bank First Friday Downtown Trolley Hop.
Because that’s what the press release from the SOFO Retail Business District and Block Party store PR person said: ” On June 7, Block Party Handmade Boutique along with the other new retailers on South Fourth Street will be part of the First Friday Downtown Trolley Hop.”
The Louisville Downtown Management District who organizes the Trolley Hop says no.
Keith Brooks, LDMC Communications Specialist, told us that he got the SOFO press release when we did. At one point there had been discussions about adding the SOFO district, but nothing had been decided.
He was quite firm when he said it wasn’t happening for the June 7 hop.
And truth be told, there’s no explicit mention in the press release that there will be a trolley to SOFO. One just makes the assumption when you say “trolley hop” you mean there will be a trolley.
That doesn’t mean you can’t hoof it up to the SOFO area from a trolley stop on Market, right? SOFO– the South Fourth Street Retail District is located between the Historic Brown and Seelbach Hotels in Downtown Louisville. Easy peasy.
The retail businesses will be open until 9 p.m. and offering deals and treats.
From their press release:
This First Friday will include refreshments, prizes, entertainment and a unique shopping experience from the retailers! Block Party will be featuring a free DIY craft project by local artist Craft E Magee.
Trolley Hop goers will find free parking at the 4th St. Live! garage and on the street after 6 pm. Trolleys run until 11PM for those interested in visiting both South Fourth and East Market Streets. (Trolley and parking Information provided by Louisville Downtown Management District)
But until further notice the trolley map still looks like this:
The South Fourth Retail Business District PR did not return an email asking for clarification.
