Joseph Alala III, president and CEO of private-equity fund CapitalSouth Partners, is scheduled to be guest speaker for the November meeting of the Association for Corporate Growth Kentucky.
The event is scheduled for 7:30 a.m. to 9 a.m. November 9 at the Louisville Marriott Downtown, Third and Jefferson streets,
Alala will speak about the current state of the private equity markets, and about the different uses of private equity and mezzanine financing for middle-market businesses, according to Ken Berryman, ACG Kentucky founder and director of CapitalSouth’s Kentucky operations.
Mezzanine lenders typically inject money and expertise into middle-market companies for expansion on the way to being acquired by a larger company. In return for that typically unsecured investment, the mezzanine lender gets an equity stake and a large payout when the company is sold.
Alala, who has both a law degree and an MBA from Wake Forest University, started the Charlotte, N.C.-based fund when he was 28 years old.
CapitalSouth has operations in Charlotte, Dallas, Louisville, Raleigh, N.C. and Orlando.
Since it was founded in 1998, CapitalSouth has closed 60 transactions, representing $2 billion in financing. The firm has more than $600 million under management through multiple committed funds, according to CapitalSouth’s website. CapitalSouth partners typically invest between $5 million and $25 million in companies they believe have strong competitive advantages and management teams.
With CapitalSouth as the lead investor, the firm can participate in syndication investment up to $40 million, according to the firm’s website.
The price for the event is $30 per person, or $150 for a table of six.
Non-members can register for $50 per person, or they can apply for membership in advance to receive the discounted member rate or to buy tables at www.acgkentucky.org.
