Revelry Boutique Gallery celebrating first year with new works by Bob Lockhart, Mike Maydak

Revelry Gallery Boutique founder Paula Weyler is celebrating her gallery’s first anniversary with an exhibit of her mentor’s work.

Bob Lockhart, a renown sculptor and a professor at Bellarmine University, was instrumental in helping Revelry co-owner Paula Weyler to develop the Revelry concept.

Lockhart’s new drawing series will open alongside works by Mike Maydak, Revelry’s debut artist from last year’s grand opening.

Maydak has been the gallery’s most popular exhibitor, and will return with more of his signature comic-inspired paintings, according to a news release.

Weyler opened Revelry Boutique-Gallery at 980 Barret Ave. in the Original Highlands neighborhood last July.

Revelry will host a First Anniversary celebration with a public reception for both Lockhart and Maydak on August 20 at 7 p.m. The event, which is free, will feature food, refreshments and a live DJ, according to the release.

“I always wanted a store like this, but the vision really became clear in college,” said Weyler in the release. She graduated from Bellarmine University in 2003 with degrees in business administration and fine arts.

During her first year at Bellarmine, Weyler met Lockhart in a Drawing I class.

Lockhart, who earned his Master of Fine Arts from the Art Institute of Chicago in 1966, has been living, teaching and creating in Louisville since the late 1960’s.

“Bob taught me to see opportunities everywhere. ‘Mistake’ was a word that was never allowed in his classes,” Weyler said.
