Francois Delattre.
We are far from diplomatic and cultural centers. French speakers are rare, and there’s exactly one place in town (Blue Dog Bakery and Cafe) where you can get an authentic baguette.
Yet, the good people at the World Affairs Council of Kentucky and Southern Indiana have found a way to lure to Louisville foreign ambassadors from major world powers including France.
WAC’s Ambassadorial Luncheons – held in cooperation with World Trade Center Kentucky – will host France’s ambassador to the United States for its inaugural event October 27, according to a news release.
François Delattre is scheduled to present “France and the United States: Facing Today’s Global Challenges” as the first ambassador in the series.
Delattre was appointed Ambassador of France to the United States in February 2011 after serving as Ambassador of France to Canada from 2008 to 2011. He was consul general in New York from 2004 to 2008) and press and communications director at the French Embassy in Washington, D.C. from 1998 to 2002.
A member of President Jacques Chirac’s foreign policy team from 1995 to 1998, Delattre was responsible for European and trans-Atlantic defense and security matters and managing the Bosnian crisis.
The Ambassadorial Luncheon is scheduled to begin at 12:30 p.m, at Z’s Fusion, on the corner of Fourth and Jefferson streets downtown.
Tickets, which include a luncheon and presentation, are $30 per person.
