Blessings in a Backpack fundraiser set for Feb. 17 at Winston’s
Winston’s restaurant (3101 Bardstown Road, on the campus of Sullivan University), in conjunction with Justin Vineyard and Winery in Paso Robles, Calif., Southern Wines and Spirits and Westport Whiskey and Wine, will hold a wine tasting event benefiting Blessings in a Backpack on Friday, Feb. 17.
According to a news release, Blessings in a Backpack provides weekend nourishment to school children on the federal free and reduced meal plan. It relies on fundraising to support children in need, and the event at Winston’s will help to sustain the program in the Louisville area.
The wine tasting takes place from 6 to 9 p.m., and the cost is $25 per person—all of which goes to Blessings in a Backpack. Included is a tasting of four Justin Vineyard and Winery creations and hors d’oeuvre prepared by Winston’s chefs and culinary students.
Justin wines by the bottle will also be made available for those dining at Winston’s during the weekend of Feb. 17 and 18. For each bottle sold, $5 will be donated to Blessings in a Backpack.
For information or reservations, call Winston’s at 456-0980.
The Blessings in a Backpack program works when a passionate parent, teacher, nurse, counselor, community advocate or corporate supporter elects to start the program in a local school.
Once a school is adopted, Blessings in a Backpack will help find a nearby grocer to partner with, as well as provide the program framework for implementation.
Blessings in a Backpack announced Dec. 19 that Jefferson County Public Schools will be the largest school district in the United States to feed all of the Early Childhood through fifth grade students eligible for the Blessings in a Backpack program.
