The Derby City Film Festival will screen a total of 56 films during the he three day festival, from Friday, Feb. 17 through Sunday, Feb. 19 at the Clifton Center. The lineup includes 24 International films representing 16 countries as well as eight world premieres, five U.S. premieres, and 28 Kentucky premieres, according to the DCFF website.
Eight films were produced in the Bluegrass State and another five have ties to the state, according to the website.
Actor Lance Henriksen (“Aliens”) is scheduled to attend the festival, recieving the DCFF Lifetime Achievement Award.

MINI of Louisville Live at the Clifton Center will present a special documentary presentation as part of the Wild and Woolly Film Series with the support of Quest Outdoors. Glen Denny, the photographer who filmed El Capitan, will host a short presentation and Q&A session. The Louisville Film Society will project a lovely 16mm print of this documentary that is more art film than Discovery Channel as it captures one of the earliest ascents of “The Nose” on El Capitan in Yosemite Valley, California. The award-winning film follows three climbers as they attempt the 3000-foot vertical ascent.
Glen Denny made some of the early ascents of El Capitan in the 1960s, before moving on to the Cordillera Huayhuash and the Hindu Kush. His climbing films have won awards at many film festivals. His photography has appeared in numerous publications, culminating in his book Yosemite in the Sixties, which was published by Patagonia and received the National Outdoor Book Award and Banff Mountain Book Festival prizes for artistic merit. Denny will also give a 70-minute slide show presentation and sign copies of his his book on Thursday, February 16th at 7:00pm atQuest Outdoors in Clifton.
Through feature films, shorts, documentaries and student films, as well as conversations with guest speakers, the festival explores Jewish identity with the hope of increasing tolerance and educating its audiences. See the line-up here.
