Yew Dell Botanical Gardens is presenting its Hellebore Day event Sat., April 3.
And no, we’d never heard of “Hellebores,” either, though we like the name. (Reminds us of some of our in-laws.)

And you’re thinking… what is a Hellebore and why would it warrant a celebration? If you have any interest in plants or gardening and you’ve never seen a Hellebore, you’re missing out. Hellebores are perennials with lovely elegant flowers that love our region and, hold on, bloom in the winter (including cold ones)! Yew Dell Botanical Gardens has a large collection that has been blooming since December. YDBG celebrates this near-perfect-fit for Kentucky perennial every year.
The event includes an informal discussions about the flower and an opportunity to purchase your own.
Hellebore Day is scheduled for for noon to 3 p.m.
Yew Dell is at 6220 Old Lagrange Rd. in Crestwood, Ky., just east of Louisville.

The event is free for members and with regular admission. Admission: $7 for adults, $5 for seniors over 55 and free for children under 12.
