Ben Sollee playing free concert May 1 at Heine Brothers’ Coffee, Eastern Parkway and Bardstown Road

It’s an unorthodox move, but, hey, pop cellist/singer/songwriter Ben Sollee is an unorthodox performer.

Sollee is scheduled to play a free concert Tuesday, May 1 at the Heine Brothers’ Coffee Shop at Eastern Parkway and Bardstown Road.

The performance is part of the the launch of his new CD, “LIVE at The Grocery on Home” (Atlanta, GA).

Sollee is scheduled to play on the outside patio at Heine Brothers’.

The performance starts at 7 p.m., and Heine Brothers’ Mike Mays recommends being “early/on time as this will be a 30 minute show!”

(Note: Beer and wine are now available at this HB store. More about that in a later post.)

Sollee just returned from touring Australia, and he’s scheduled to play Knight Theatre in Charlotte, N.C. April 26, 27 and 28, then swing through Louisville on the way to a May 2 concert at the Square Room in Knoxville.

Sollee has collaborated with multiple local and national artists  including My Morning Jacket front man Jim James since NPR’s Morning Edition named him one of the “Top Ten Great Unknown Artists of 2007.”

He was featured on CNN’s “Music Monday” back in February.
