The Beat the Odds dinner at Varanese is back for Derby Eve and Derby night (May 4 and 5), a steal of a deal for $45 per couple—yes, that’s for two. We don’t usually weigh in on press releases, but this sounds almost too good to be true. Diners served between 5 and 6 p.m. only get:

• A choice of salads: mixed baby greens, sliced cucumbers, shaved red onions
• and grape tomatoes drizzled with caramelized onion vinaigrette, or crispy romaine lettuce tossed with creamy roasted garlic and parmesan dressing topped with fried polenta croutons
• A choice of entrees: pecan-encrusted mahi mahi atop whipped sweet potatoes finished with honey butter sauce, or tender grilled flat iron steak drizzled with Chef John’s V-12 sauce served over an infused mushroom and parmesan risotto, or bourbon barrel smoked pork chop topped with apple-bacon chutney and served with au gratin potato.
• Dessert includes a small bites trio for two
