Music with a message: Neulore from Nashville playing Zanzabar Wed., May 9

We don’t know how they sound live, but Zanzabar is going to be hosting a Nashville-based band Wed., May 9 with one of the lushest sounds we’ve ever heard digitally.

We can’t help comparing Neulore to Coldplay in the sophistication of their multi-layered guitar harmonics, keyboard leitmotifs, melodies and lyrics, which are heavily Christian influenced. Lots of cleverly written theological metaphores that manage not to kill the buzz.

Think Jars of Clay meets U-2. (Their tour is even called “Everything You Leave Behind Tour.” Heard that before somewhere.)

Also, Adam Agin is one hell of a singer. (Oooops. We forgot.) One  heck of a singer.

We’re saying this based on one song – “Eve” – but if Neulore they can sustain this over an entire album, these guys are going to be huge. If they can cross over a la Amy Grant. You heard it here first.

They’re going to be playing here with singer/songwriter Brooks Ritter, who we know as the sweetest, most talented person to ever work at the Fourth Street Starbucks, and that’s saying a lot! And we hear Brooks is a great pastor. (Even at the yeshiva, we hear this! Is Louisville’s an interfaith town or what?)

The bizarre thing is, Louisville-based Crash Avenue is promoting these guys as a folk band. Like The Wanted are a folk band.

Huh?

Coming soon to your neck of the indie rock and flannel-filled woods is Neulore, a three-piece modern folk band from Nashville whose gentle yet powerful music is the perfect accompaniment to their style of folklore storytelling.

Neulore’s concept album EP, Apples & Eve, tells the well-known biblical tale as a quaint and touching love story that impacts the audience, whether it be through earbuds or at a crowded live show.

My guess is their labeling of Neulore as a folk band stems from the rest of the album which stylistically has more in common with Fleet Foxes or Mumford and Sons.  The whole album is great though.
