Gelato Gilberto hosting first Buontalenti Gelato Festival June 3
Local Italian ice cream shop Gelato Gilberto will host a street fair to celebrate its fifth year in business in Norton Commons.
According to a news release, the first Buontalenti Gelato Festival will take place on Sunday, June 3, from 2-6 p.m. in the street directly in front of Gelato Gilberto, located at 9434 Norton Commons Boulevard in Prospect.
The festival will feature live music from Dixieland Solution, expert face painting by Sue Mauldin, soccer activities from 4 Kicks 4 Kidz, wine tastings, art activities, glass art by Twin Glass Studio, a Cinquecento display from Sam Swope Fiat and a gelato eating contest. From 5-6 the Bubble Truck will also be on site with bubble activities for children of all ages.
“We are so excited to be celebrating our fifth anniversary with the community,” said co-owner Justin Gilbert. “We’ve tried to pick out lots of things that we love, like gelato and Dixieland jazz, and to put them all together for people to enjoy in one place.”
The eclectic festival is appropriately named after eclectic historical figure Bernardo Buontalenti (1531-1608), a Florentine stage designer, architect, theatrical designer, military engineer and artist who is also credited with the invention of gelato.
Gelato Gilberto is a locally owned gelato shop specializing in made-from-scratch artisanal gelato and sorbetto. It features 24 flavors a day made with premium ingredients like fresh, seasonal produce, imported Italian nut pastes and whole milk. Owners Justin and Kristin Gilbert lived two years in Italy while perfecting the recipes they now serve, and Justin is a graduate of Carpigiani’s Gelato University in Bologna, Italy.
