NuLu Fest 2012: Art, food, music, shopping and a chance for eternal fame and glory in a new-music contest

So much cooler than we knew.

Has it really been four years?

The East Market Street District has announced details for its 4th annual NuLu Festival, which is scheduled for Sat., Sept. 22.

The gigantic block party is scheduled for 2 p.m. to 11 p.m. in the 700 block of East Market Street.

The reason we’re alerting you almost four months ahead of time is because  for 2012, there’ll be a twist – a music contest that starts next month.

Here’s the deal from a NuLu news release:  Solo acts or groups can submit their name/names online, and fans will start voting for their favorite act starting July 2.

The winning act will be announced July 20 and will be expected to be rehearsed and ready to play NuLu Fest.

To enter, go to the NuLu Fest website here.

We wouldn’t be so twitterpated over this were it not for the fact that an actual music mogul is involved – Gill Holland’s SonaBLAST! Music is headquartered in the Green Building at 732 E. Market St., and Holland is president of the East Market Street District biz association.

So, winning this contest could be like Elvis recording that platter for his momma Gladys at Sun Music all those years ago. Or not.

Along with the contest, there will be other live acts along with food trucks, all the NuLu retailers, art galleries, antique stores, 15 or so restaurants at last count, beer stores, wine/liquor shops and all the stuff in a frenetic 5-block area.

Also new for this year –  NuLu Festival has been named the “Official After-Party” for Louisville’s IdeaFestival, a gathering of innovators and thinkers from around the world taking place at the same time, according to the release.
