Late Notice: Riverview Park Independence Festival Saturday, June 30

Although local residents still refer to it as “Greenwood Boat Docks,” much has changed as Southwest Louisville’s Riverview Park gets its own Fourth of July celebration this year.

The Riverview Park Independence Festival is on Saturday, June 30 from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m.

This is a great opportunity for you to enjoy one of Southwest Louisville’s best attractions in the newly-renovated Riverview Park.

This year’s festival will include live music by The Monarchs, 31W, and Ode 2 the Gnu and will be capped off with a large fireworks show.

Food vendors include local favorites Mike Linnig’s, Ehler’s Ice Cream and Ron’s Hot Dogs.

Bring lawn chairs and bathing suits for the kids. Riverview Park’s new sprayground will be open.

The ribbon was cut on Riverview Park in 2010 after years of planning by city government and years of impatient waiting by residents.

Formerly a gravel parking lot with a shoddy, narrow boat launching ramp, Riverview Park received nearly $2 million dollars in upgrades and new features.

A handicapped-accessible playground, a new sprayground and new restrooms along with an improved parking surface and boat ramp completed the first phase. Riverview Park is comprised of 87 acres on the bank of the Ohio River. The park offers access to the Ohio River Levee Trail, part of the Louisville Loop.

The festival is sponsored by the southwest Metro Councilpersons and the Riverport Business Association.

Riverview Park is located at 8202 Greenwood Road in Southwest Louisville.

Parking Info: You can park on site or at Pleasure Ridge Park High School. Free shuttle service from the high school to Riverview Park during the event.
