Honey, it’s the Weekend: Discount Guns, Buffalo Killers, Tunesmiths Friday at Glassworks’ Rooftop series, plus so much more
Crowds at the Glassworks Rooftop Concert Series.
Last weekend I learned a few things from my travels to Lollapalooza:
The Chicago festival has become an overpopulated and corporate-sponsored moneymaking machine. Mother nature is unstoppable as a huge green thunderstorm shut down the music festival for a few hours on Saturday.
Sigur Ros was the most powerful music act I have ever experienced; Jack White was the loudest and most musically endowed, and Die Antwoord was the wackiest, rowdiest and most entertaining.
It always, always, always feels good to return home to Louisville.
Thankfully, there are some local concerts that will embody everything there is to love about this small city. See you out and about, music fans.
In early June, I warned you of the Discount Guns’ power to come on their first official album release. The album, “Odessa,” is a fireball; rock-n-roll at its finest. Those who have heard it can’t stop talking about it as the band’s dynamic live sound is captured brilliantly on the record; every listen is your own one-on-one concert with DG.
Discount Guns has come so far in the Louisville music scene, from unknowns to now local favorites, and they will be playing every Louisville band’s dream show, a concert atop The Glassworks at Ninth and Market. The boys were born ready for the big show and the Rooftop Summer Concert Series has put together one hell of a lineup this Friday.
The Buffalo Killers will also be releasing their newest album. The Cincinnati-based band has produced an album with Dan Auerbach of the Black Keys and toured with The Black Crowes’ Chris Robinson. Their sound may be quite dangerous for roof-top dancers as the boys are some of the hardest blues-rockers in the country. They kick ass and if you are lucky, they may take your name.
Louisville blues rockers The Tunesmiths will open up the night of modern rock-n-roll. This is the music event of the weekend and there is not too much space on the roof, so get your tickets fast and get your Discount Guns’ album… you can thank me later.
Here’s the basic info from the concert Facebook page:

Want to show your date your wild side … or want one hell of a lady’s night? Then take a chance and experience a burlesque performance by the Va Va Vixens at Headliners.
Local art support group the Art Sanctuary hosts the event.
This glittery affair will feature costumes, music and acrobatics all centered around food; it promises to be a tasty affair… but it may be downright madness. Which is always fun to experience.

Get out of the box if you feel like it and come down and make a strange, but surely fun new memory.
The doors open up at seven and show time is set for 8 p.m.
Will Hardesty and Sean Smith are hosting the roast and a bevy of local comedians will be portraying different Batman characters. The Joker, Penguin, Robin, The Batman himself and many more are scheduled to appear.
In a more serious matter, 10 percent of the proceeds go to Caleb Medley, a comedian who was harmed in the Aurora shooting. Come do a small deed and get together with a bunch of people who just want to laugh, and have a good time.
Who doesn’t like poking fun at billionaires who dress up and play with their fancy toys???
Get there around 9:30 for a good spot and a pre-drink.
