Late notice: Opening reception tonight for ‘Art Envoy,’ final Louisville Visual Arts Association show at Louisville Water Tower

It’s hard to get your head around this – The Louisville Visual Arts Association is leaving the Louisville Water Tower at River Road and Zorn Avenue after 32 years.

(We broke the story in May, 2011 – The Louisville Water Co. gave LVAA the ol’ heave ho, deciding to use the landmark building and its acreage for its own museum.)

As the last hurrah, the final show, “Art Envoy,” opens tonight and runs through September 7.

“Art Envoy” features works of art 36 artists, “symbolically bridging LVAA’s past with the organization’s future,” according to a news release.

The exhibition features 18 artists from Showcase 25 – LVAA’s first major exhibition at the Louisville Water Tower in 1981 – and pairs them with 18 collaborating artists from the local visual arts community, according to the release. Each of the 18 collaborating artists were selected by the original Showcase 25 artists and invited to work together or show their work together in Art Envoy.

From the release courtesy of Daniel Pfalzgraf, artist and curator at the Green Building Gallery, which will have a number of its artists front and center for the show:
