But the IF Water Conference is all systems go for tomorrow, Sept. 18, with some really big names.
IF Water Conference will go from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Todd Hall at the Kentucky Center for the Performing Arts in conjunction with the IdeaFestival.
We’re already getting alerts from IdeaFestival organizers saying the main sessions starting Wednesday are looking like they’ll be well attended, with plans for overflow seating for us, the humble media.
So, you might want to get to this one early, as well.
The IF Water Conference agenda of presenters is as follows:
9:15am: Greg Heitzman, president and CEO of the Louisville Water Co. “It Started Here”
10:00am: Gregory Luhan, associate dean for Research at University of Kentucky, “A Vision for the Future: Louisville’s Water Innovation Center”
11:00am: Steven Greseth, Infrastructure and Management Consultant for Kentucky-Southern Indiana Ohio River Projects, “Revealing the Hidden Falls of the Ohio”
12:00pm: Lunch and Keynote Speaker Gill Holland, independent film producer and co-developer of The Green Building. “What We Can We Learn from the Drought.”
1:15pm: Dr. Bill Smock, Dept. of Emergency Medicine at the University of Louisville. “Water is Medicine”
2:00pm: Megan Casey, a JCTCS student and a native of Iraq “A Woman’s Roll in the Search for Clean Water”
2:30pm: Mark Hogg, founder and CEO of WaterStep, (formerly EDGE Outreach) “What IF Ordinary People Could Save the World?”
Other activities that are free and open to the public:
- The IF Water tent located in front of the Kentucky Center for the Performing Arts will be open on Tuesday, September 18th from noon to 4 p.m., and on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday from noon to 2 p.m. Actors from the local group Righteous Insanity will role play on the sidewalk and encourage the public to visit the tent to see a team of GE engineers and volunteers from Louisville Water assemble and demonstrate WaterStep’s M-100 Chlorine Generator. The M-100 can provide 10,000 gallons of safe drinking water in a 24-hour period and is one of WaterStep’s most valuable tools in fighting the world water crisis.
- WaterStep’s Shoe Truck will be parked at the corner of Main Street and Montpelier, next to the ramp to the Belvedere, Tuesday, September 18th from 9:00am – 5:00pm, Wednesday, September 19th from 7:15 am-3:30 pm, and Thursday, September 20th and Friday, September 21st from 12:00pm- 3:00pm. The public is invited to bring their unwanted shoes to donate, and the funds raised from the resale of the shoes benefits the mission of WaterStep. Shoes of all sizes, styles and condition are accepted.
- The public can bring a cup or re-useable water bottle to the Louisville pure tap to GO mobile unit and get free, chilled Louisville Water from 11:30am-1:00pm, weather permitting. Louisville pure tap® to GO is a new concept to help eliminate plastic bottles at public events and provide a convenient and affordable way to provide drinking water.
