Take a hike, or a hayride, or an alpine tower climb on October 20 at the Jefferson Memorial Forest.
The Mayor’s Fall Hike and Outdoor Adventure takes place from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.
I don’t know… promising “outdoor adventure” in a Kentucky forest seems like code for something sinister. Am I right?
But the press release offers up only totally innocent-sounding activities. It says:
Join Mayor Greg Fischer for a family-friendly fall exploration of Jefferson Memorial Forest. This year, the event will be held near the Forest’s Environmental Education Center and will offer a wider variety of activities that showcase all that the Forest has to offer. Forest staff, and volunteers, will be on hand to introduce visitors to our native plant gardens, and animal exhibits. There will also be children’s activities at our new kids Nature Explore area. Climb the 52-ft Alpine Tower or take advantage of a canoeing demonstration on Mitchell Hill Lake. There will be free pumpkins and pumpkin decorating, hay rides.
Also at the event will be Shack in the Back BBQ and their slow-smoked meats that are cooked over pits for 14-18 hours. They will have breakfast and lunch foods available and a portion of food sales will go to benefit the Forest. Maybe not the healthiest options… go with the chicken & veg after your hike. You’ll be glad you did.
They Mayor’s hike is free and will meet at the Horine Reservation.
