A business plan too good to fail: Art Eatables marries chocolate and bourbon

South Fourth Street right by Broadway is slowly evolving into a more interesting place. And a new business is about to make the historic downtown shopping district just a little sweeter. (Sorry. I had to.)

Mon., Nov. 5th, Art Eatables, which opened online in 2011, will have their grand opening for their first candy retail shop. They’ll have door prizes and samples at various times the entire week.

The formerly online-only business is billed as “Kentucky’s Premier Bourbon Chocolatier.” Owner Kelly Ramsey’s signature product is her trademarked line of Small-Batch Bourbon Truffles.

According to Art Eatable’s news release:

The Small-batch Bourbon Truffles pair a single bourbon with a Belgian-style chocolate. The truffles are easily identified by their B.I.T. or “Bourbon Information Token,” a small chocolate token stamped or affixed to the top of each truffle to allow easy identification of the spirit used. They currently use 25 bourbons and this number is ever increasing.

Art Eatables already makes truffles for respected distilleries. Some are for special events, but others, like Maker’s Mark® sell her products at their distillery gift shops. “We’re really honored to be trusted by these distillers to make truffles that feature their excellent bourbons,” say Ms. Ramsey. “It’s fun to find that magical balance that makes two spectacular tastes complement each other so well. We’re just getting started down here though. There are a lot of bourbons to work with, and a lot of people to introduce to our truffles.”

Art Eatables produces and sells chocolates at this new retail location and will continue to create custom products for events.  They are located at 631 S. Fourth Street will be open Mondays through Saturdays, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
