One more out the door: Dan Klepal leaving the Courier-Journal for Atlanta Journal Constitution
(Editor’s note: The original version of this post misspelled Arlene Jacobson’s name.)
Yet another veteran staffer is leaving the Courier-Journal, though this time it’s voluntarily.
Dan Klepal, who covered city hall and politics, announced via Twitter (we’re not making this up) that he’s leaving for greener (Gannett-free) pastures.
“It’s with sadness and excitement that I announced today I’m leaving The Courier-Journal to take a job at the Atlanta Journal-Constitution,” Klepal tweeted, which was immediately picked up by our Melissa Chipman.
As of late, Klepal has been on the Barbara Shanklin beat, which would have been enough to make anyone flee.
Klepal joins CJ traitors Rick Bozich and Eric Crawford, who left for WDRB -TV before Gannett Corp. executives in McLean, Va. could get around to firing them.
And you can bet your you-know-what Klepal won’t even get the “don’t let the door hit you on the behind” treatment Crawford, Bozich and so many others have gotten in the pages of One Great Newspaper as they filed out this year, boxes in hand.
Our eyes are still moist from the bloodless statement interim Publisher Randi Austin released last April upon the departure of 26 CJ staffers who took early retirement.
“While we are sorry to see these valuable and long-term employees leave, we are happy to be able to provide this voluntary opportunity to retire early,” Austin said. “We thank them for their dedicated service and wish each of them and their families all the best in the years ahead.”
Add Klepal’s name to our original list of CJ veterans who left during 2012.
