Majid's offers an international Feast of the Seven Fishes on Dec. 23

by Melissa Chipman

For a landlocked commonwealth, we’re blessed to have an abundance of fresh seafood, thanks to the men and women in brown.

As a native New Englander and displaced New Orleanian, I am so grateful for that.

On Dec. 23, Majid’s on Chenoweth Square is holding a less-than-traditional Italian Feast of the Seven Fishes. Stephen Dennison of Majid’s explains:

This is an Italian tradition, generally taken on Christmas Eve- a celebration of family and the bounty of the sea. Of course, the Italians aren’t the only culture with Pescatarian ties. This year we are going to celebrate various tradtional dishes of the world- from British Fish and Chips, to American Oyster Stew, to Campagnian Puttanesca.

The beverages will be of interest because the ‘cocktails’ as they were, will appear in the first course and the last course. If you notice, we have chosen drinks that marry the cuisine and cocktail. Throughout the meal, we will have a bottle of red and white on each table and let the guests ‘serve themselves,’ as is the tradition in the old world.  The idea is to invoke a sense of an old-world communal feast.

If Christmas shopping hadn’t tapped me out a bit, this would be one holiday dinner that I would seriously consider attending. The menu sounds incredible, and it seems very reasonably priced for what it offers.

This delicious event takes place on Sun., Dec. 23 at 6:30 p.m. at Majid’s, 3930 Chenoweth Square. Reservations are required; to reserve call: 502.618.2222. The price is $55 plus tax and gratuity, which seems like a steal when you consider it includes “serve yourself” wine. (Bring a designated driver, folks.)
