Highlands Tap Room (the original one) to close: 'Good times are coming to an end'
Bardstown Road watering hole the Highlands Tap Room officially announced today what was already soft news: they’re closing the old location across from Mid-City Mall because their lease has not been renewed.
Owners Tommy and Sally Clemons made the announcement in a post entitled “Good Times are Coming to an End” on their Facebook page.
The Highland’s Tap Room has served the Louisville drinking community for 11 years with relatively cheap drinks, craft beer, live entertainment seven days a week without a cover charge, a pool table and bi-weekly karaoke.
The owners have rented that location from Kashmira Singh, owner of Kashmir restaurant, for the last seven years.
Singh’s intention to not renew the lease was not a secret.
In the Facebook post, the Clemonses wrote:
We wanted to clarify the situation we have been dealing with over the last few years. Kashmira Singh, the owner of Kashmir restaurant, has been our landlord for the last seven years. He has elected not to renew our lease that expires at the end of 2013. For years we have been trying to renew our lease and work out any deal possible to keep our business alive. Countless hours and resources were spent negotiating a new lease. After city approval of these plans, he decided not to sign the lease. That is why we were proactive in finding another location.
That second location is the Highlands Tap Room Grill at 1058 Bardstown Rd. This new location features a kitchen and offers food that has been receiving fairly good reviews across the board.
Marty Rosen called it “some of the best pub grub in the city.”
Not a surprise since owner Tommy Clemons put in more than eight years in the kitchen at Lilly’s Bistro.
