UPDATE: This story was updated with an Author’s Note at 5 p.m.

Have you seen Chef Anthony Lamas’s famed avocado ice cream dessert? It’s gorgeous.

At last year’s Taste of Innovation, an annual showcase of Louisville’s most innovative food and beverages, Chef Lamas demonstrated how the treat was created and made it look so uncomplicated, but the presentation was met with oohs and ahhs.

Now it’s been named the most delicious ice cream dish in Kentucky by Food Network Magazine. Seviche, where Lamas is chef/owner, is one of 50 restaurants featured in the magazine’s story “50 States, 50 Ice Cream Treats.”

This avocado-flavored ice cream couldn’t look any more like a beautiful, fresh halved avocado. It’s served in a chocolate shell with a chocolate bourbon dulce de leche “pit.”

According to the Food Network website, Lamas developed his love of avocados as a child when he sold them at a roadside stand.

In a press release, Maile Carpenter, editor in chief, Food Network Magazine said,“We worked with food writers in every state to track down the best of the best.”

Seviche is located at 1538 Bardstown Road. To make reservations or for more information, call (502) 473-8560 or visit www.sevicherestaurant.com.

Unfortunately Indiana’s winner is all the way up in tiny Nappannee. But if you’re heading up to Detroit or Chicago, it might be a side trip worth making.

“Peaches and cream” is made with fresh peaches and marshmallow cream and flash frozen with liquid nitrogen and served at an Amish-owned place called Rocket Science.

Almost seems worth the 250 mile drive.

Author’s note: Note to self, don’t write a dining article before seeing if Insider Louisville’s Steve Coomes has been there first.

Turns out he was interviewed on the Cooking Channel’s “America’s Best Bites” about this very ice cream dish. Sorry, no video.

Lamas and Coomes will be featured again on another TV show centered on the avocado ice cream dessert–that’s all we can say since the show has not made its own announcement–to be aired sometime this year.”

According to Coomes, when Lamas hosted the viewing party for the Cooking Channel show, he very graciously credited Insider Louisville with starting the media ball rolling. Thanks, Chef!
