Multiple insiders say once LG&E got word that a member of KFTC had been invited to the neighborhood group’s meeting, LG&E called Southwest Community Ministries and told them to call it off, pretty much saying, “If you allow them to meet there with the coal ash haters, you can kiss our support for your organization goodbye”.
A golf lover, Sears was naturally excited to have been hired by Louisville Metro Parks as a full time park worker after a stint as a seasonal employee with the city department. Metro Parks management thought so much of Joey they not only hired him on permanently, they also promoted him to the classification of Park Worker II.
Sears was a model employee with no disciplinary problems or negative reviews in his file.

Insiders are telling us Churchill Downs has become more aggressive in protecting the “Kentucky Derby” name, sending letters scented with legal language like “cease and desist” to local businesses that hold Derby events. At least one local hotel has had to change the name of a Derby-related event because of threats by the track.
Insiders also openly mock the strategy, noting there are “Derbies” in other states like Florida, Arkansas and Louisiana as proof that Churchill has no patent on the “Derby” name.
The events surrounding the dispute itself are complex and seedy. Both sides have probably done things they wished they hadn’t. But the only side that is interested in negotiating seems to be that of the musicians. The board’s ultimate goal- eliminating the union- creeps ever closer while local officials like Owen and Mayor Fischer sit on their hands and “muddle” about what to do.

There has been an abundance of talk lately about retail development here, with some residents (the minority) turning sour on dirty flea markets and knick-knack shops. Others (the majority) are perfectly satisfied with their options, although they say they would like a “nice place to eat” on Dixie Highway.
