The Cajun and Creole restaurant J. Gumbo’s has once again expanded its Louisville presence.
During the past three years, two of the locally rooted chain restaurant’s locations, one downtown and another near the University of Louisville, have shuttered, leaving only two remaining restaurants. However as of Monday, the chain was back up to three local stores.
In addition to its flagship restaurant on Frankfort Avenue and another location off Hurstbourne Parkway, J. Gumbo’s is now operating at 1616 Grinstead Drive, just behind the Wendy’s on Bardstown Road. While the restaurant’s website still lists the location as “coming soon,” the store announced on Facebook Monday that it was ready for its first customers.
The building was formerly ZÄD, a modern Mediterranean restaurant owned by the same people who own Grape Leaf. Before that, it was Pita Delights. Notably, the downtown location of J. Gumbo’s was replaced by a Pita Pit.
J Gumbo’s menu includes dishes such as a shrimp po’ boy, Bourbon Street chicken, jambalaya, bumblebee stew and Creole ratatouille. Its hours of operation are 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday; 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday; and 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday.
The chain has 25 locations in 11 states, according to its website.
