On Saturday, March 2, El Barrio shuttered its doors at 129 W. Main St. on Whiskey Row, but the vacated space won’t stay empty long.

Bertuca Hospitality Group out of Nashville, which owns a majority stake in Doc Crow’s Southern Smokehouse & Raw Bar, is leasing the building and plans to open a new concept under the Doc Crow’s umbrella. Details on the new restaurant and bar will not be released until a later time, but a search on the company’s website turns up a project called Doc’s Bourbon Room.

“We saw an opportunity to take the Doc’s brand and expand into a new venture next door on Whiskey Row,” said the Bertuca Hospitality owner Ted Bertuca Jr. in a news release.

Construction on the space will start this spring, and the new concept will open later this summer.

Bertuca Hospitality also owns the Union Common steakhouse in Nashville and purchased a majority stake in Doc Crow’s last year. It is run by the father-and-son team of Ted Bertuca and Ted Bertuca Jr. and also owns and manages several hotels, apartment complexes and more around the country.

The company plans to offer positions to the current El Barrio staff.
