Louisvillians will have a new place to eat, drink and play. The restaurant and entertainment complex Dave & Buster’s is coming to town.
Dave & Buster’s will open in Mall St. Matthews, though it is unclear when.
“We look forward to bringing the ultimate entertainment destination to the Louisville market — hundreds of new arcade games, innovative food & beverage and the state-of-the-art D&B Sports Bar,” the chain’s national marketing manager Alex Purdy said in an email to Insider.
She said the store would take up 40,000 square feet and employ more than 250 people. Purdy declined to say when the store would open.
The Dave & Buster’s will locate on the second floor space currently occupied by Forever 21, while the youth clothing retailer is staying put on the first floor of the space.
“We are excited about the addition of Dave & Buster’s to our shopping center. We strive to provide everything under one roof for our guests and to be a shopping, dining and entertainment hub for our community. We know our guests will embrace this new concept,” David Jacoby, general manager of Mall St. Matthews, said in a statement emailed to Insider.
A typical Dave & Buster’s features a dining area and bar with televisions for guests to watch sporting events as well as billiards, hundreds of arcade games and a bowling alley. The business pitches itself as a place where adults can enjoy themselves and get in touch with their youthful side.
According to a investor presentation in April, Dave & Buster’s has 11 to 12 new stores set to open this year; it’s unclear if that includes the Louisville store or if fans will have to wait until 2018.
The average guest travels 22 minutes to visit a Dave & Buster’s, and the company requires a daytime population of 700,000 to 1 million people within 10 miles, according to the website.
Dave & Buster’s has 98 stores in 34 states and Canada, the site states, and the average sales volume for each store in 2016 was $12 million.
The closest existing Dave & Buster’s location to Louisville is located in Florence, Ky., near Cincinnati.
