The former Tumbleweed location along the Ohio River will soon be occupied by another south-of-the-border concept called Doc’s Cantina.
Owned by Falls City Hospitality Group (FCHG), which also owns Doc Crow’s on Main Street, the restaurant will serve a Tex-Mex-inspired menu by executive chef Jonathan Schwarz and offer quality cocktails such as margaritas, sangrias and more by beverage director Jackie Zykan.
Louisville-based FCHG is run by restaurateurs Steven and Michael Ton, master sommelier Brett Davis and attorney Chip Hamm. The group also owns Union Common in Nashville.
“We plan to take advantage of the unique location at Doc Cantina’s by opening up the part of the restaurant facing the river,” said FCHG managing partner Davis in a news release. “Every diner will have a view of the water while enjoying the quality meals they’ve come to love about our other locations.”
Insider reported in December that FCHG was considering the space, but no deal had been inked at the time. FCHG ultimately entered a lease agreement for the location with the Waterfront Development Corporation earlier this year, and construction is scheduled to begin this summer on the 8,000-square-foot site. The company hopes to open Doc’s Cantina by the end of 2015.
Enjoying a margarita after a trip over and back on the Big Four Bridge sounds delightful. Doc’s Cantina will be located at 1201 River Road.
