Hilliard Lyons, Louisville’s oldest investment house, and several Louisville non-profits have created new merit awards for outstanding educators, awards totallying about $40,000.

The Hilliard Lyons Teacher Excellence and Principal Excellence awards will recognize exceptional teachers and principals.

Five teachers and five principals will each receive the Hilliard Lyons Excellence Awards at a ceremony Thur., May 30 in the KFC Yum! Center’s Spirit Room.

Hilliard Lyons executives will award each recipient $1,000 for their school at the ceremony, scheduled for 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Several other groups also are recognizing educators with their awards, which are valued up to $2,000.

The keynote speaker for the invitation-only awards ceremony will be University of Louisville President James Ramsey, whose parents were JCPS teachers.

Nominations were submitted from throughout the Jefferson Country Public School system, according to the release, and teachers at all grade levels were eligible.

A team of business and community leaders reviewed the nominations and selected the winners. Teachers were nominated by their principals. Principals were nominated by assistant superintendents.

“Hilliard Lyons places a high priority on educational attainment and recognizes the valuable roles that our teachers and principals play in the process,” stated Hilliard Lyons CEO Jim Allen in the release.

Allen also is the current chair of the Jefferson County Public Schools Foundation.
