May was a record month for Louisville-made Ford Escapes. It was the first time that monthly retail sales of the Escape topped 30,000 units. In May, the company sold 31,896 vehicles.
The brand-new Lincoln MKC, also produced in Louisville, was released in May. Ford retailers sold 677 during the final weekend of the month. The MKC is marketed as a “small premium utility vehicle.”
“Lincoln MKC is a perfect blend of inspired automotive design and dynamic driving performance in a segment that has grown in popularity in recent years,” Jim Farley, executive vice president of Ford global marketing, sales and service, said in a news release. “As a challenger luxury brand, entering this segment is a natural next step for us. MKC will do more than just compete – it will change the way people think about Lincoln.”
Altogether, the Dearborn, Mich.-based Ford had its best May sales figures since 2004. Total May U.S. sales were up 3 percent with 254,084 vehicles sold; retail sales were up 6 percent with 174,889 vehicles sold.
