“Spirits of Prohibition” sounds like the coolest ghost tour ever. Gangsters, flappers, Tommy guns (invented by a Kentuckian, by the way), Steve Buscemi.

Instead, this Dec. 5, the Distilled Spirits Epicenter (DSE) is hosting a “Spirits of Prohibition” class in honor of Repeal Day .

The course will focus on bourbon, gin and cocktails from the prohibition era.

Repeal Day celebrates the anniversary of the end of thirteen years of prohibition in 1933 with the ratification of the 21st Amendment.

According to the “official” website of Repeal Day:

There are no outfits to buy, costumes to rent, rivers to dye green. Simply celebrate the day by stopping by your local bar, tavern, saloon, winery, distillery, or brewhouse and having a drink. Pick up a six-pack on your way home from work. Split a bottle of wine with a loved one. Buy a shot for a stranger. Just do it because you can. Or, class up the holiday a little by attending “Spirits of Prohibition.” It’s educational.

Classes such as this one, called “enthusiast classes” will be offered once a month or more at DSE’s Moonshine University and will cost $100 per person.

According to the press release: 

In addition to the enthusiast classes, professional courses are also planned for those working toward opening their own distilleries, industry professionals and those looking for careers in the distilling industry. Five-day distiller courses are priced at $5,500 per person and will be led by industry experts and renowned master distillers. The next five-day class starts January 14 and registration opens November 1. There’s also a special half-day session on January 13. These classes will be a comprehensive study in distilling and business management education.
