On Jan. 6, unofficial mayor of NuLu Gill Holland will kick off the new year by being the first keynote of the 2016 Venture Connectors luncheons.
Holland wears many hats, including entrepreneur, filmmaker, former lawyer and record label owner, but it is in his capacity as a developer that he is coming to speak to the monthly gathering of entrepreneurs and investors.
He will give an update on the progress of the Portland Investment Initiative. In 2013, Holland started buying and renovating buildings in the Portland area, a low-income west Louisville neighborhood. Holland will share some of the initiative’s success and failures, and he’ll give insight into how the entrepreneurial community can get involved in the efforts.
Holland runs sonaBLAST! Records, now celebrating its 70th album release, and is president of the NuLu Business Association. He developed the Green Building in NuLu and helped bring about the renaissance of that retail corridor.
Venture Connectors’ luncheon meetings are held on the first Wednesday of each month at the Muhammad Ali Center, 144 N. Sixth St. Doors open at 11:30 a.m., and the meeting runs from noon-1:15 p.m. Members attend free; associate members pay $30. Guests who register online by noon the day before the lunch pay only $40.
