grandDemo Days are kind of like theater. Well-rehearsed monologues. Impressive visuals. All the nerves and sweaty palms of stage fright.

So it’s only appropriate that Velocity Indiana is hosting their Demo Day in New Albany’s historic Grand Theater.

According to the theater’s website:

The Grand was built in 1909 and began its long tenure of providing its patrons with excellent entertainment. Admission of 10 cents entitled a person to stay an hour and witness two acts of vaudeville, see three reels of moving pictures & hear two songs besides enjoying one of the best orchestras in commission.

Five companies will present their progress in front of an estimated 300 investors, entrepreneurs, members of the business community and students. The event will kick off at 3 p.m on Thursday, April 10.

The event also will feature live music by Georgetown, Ind. band the Hart Strings, an open bar and light fare. It’s free and open to the public.

The after-party will be at Wick’s Pizza across the street.

Four companies of the accelerator program’s winter cohort will participate. Also participating is an alumni company from the spring cohort, Collabra. The fifth company of the winter cohort, NurseVersity, dropped out of the program “for personal reasons.”

These companies have been participating in Velocity’s Lean Startup model accelerator since early January.

According to the website F6S.com, Velocity has opened up applications for its third cohort, which will be open only to food and beverage companies. More as we know more. Applications are due April 30.

The second class for Velocity is (descriptions provided by Velocity):

GearBrake provides motorcyclists the reassurance that other drivers will be able to see them in time to avoid a rear-end collision. Motorcycles are able to rapidly slow down without using the brakes by downshifting and engine braking. While this is extremely effective in slowing down the bike, it does not light the brake lights to warn other drivers. GearBrake can sense the deceleration from slowing down and automatically flashes the brake lights when downshifting, engine braking or standard braking, which has been proven to increase reaction times and reduce rear-end collisions.

Drifter Events is a sports event company specialized in organizing fun, off the wall events. We host a myriad of events across the U.S. that focus on entertainment, adventure racing and endurance sports. We love inventing, creating, promoting, and launching fun events for active people (on foot and on bikes!) across the country, including the Urban Bike Adventure; Derby City Run Club; The Ugly Sweater Ride; and The Great American Chase. We enjoy being a little weird while dreaming up ways to show off local communities and charities.
