Omni Hotels & Resorts has released a video that gives people an idea of what it will be like to walk into the $321 million, 30-story hotel and residence in downtown Louisville.
Work started on the Omni Louisville in January, and the building is on track to open in spring 2018. Some 190 construction workers are on site every day, and the building infrastructure already reaches 12 stories high, according to Omni Hotels & Resorts.
“It has been just a fascinating project to see go up,” said Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer in a news conference to update people on the project’s progress. “The Omni is going to remake our skyline and reinforce our reputation as a world-class destination that is going to help us attract even more businesses.”
Once complete, the Omni Louisville will have 612 rooms, 70,000 square feet of meeting and event space, 225-unit luxury apartments, two outdoor pool and bar areas, an art gallery in the lobby, a spa and fitness center, two restaurants, a speakeasy with four bowling lanes, a library and a 20,000-square-foot urban grocery and market.
The hotel will feature local businesses such as Heine Brothers’ Coffee, artwork from Louisville artists, and touches, such as the speakeasy, that are a callback to Louisville’s history and culture.
“While Omni is a big global brand, you are going to see lots of local flavor integrated,” Fischer said.
Although it won’t open for another year and a half, the hotel already has booked more than 24,000 room nights. Economic development and government officials have repeatedly stated that the Omni Louisville, along with the convention center renovation, will allow the city to attract new and larger events to the city.
“This is another stone to put us on the map. This is a big, big impact,” said Louisville Metro Council president David Yates, adding that it will create 300 new permanent jobs in the city.
Omni Hotels & Resorts parent company TRT Holdings isn’t footing the cost alone. The city has awarded $139 million worth of incentives the company, and the parking authority is paying for a new $17 million parking garage. TRT Holdings also will receive $90.5 million in tax rebates from the state.
The Omni is one of 23 hotels under construction or planned to open in Louisville in the next few years and contributes to the roughly $9 billion in capital being invested in Louisville.
