Louisville-based food manufacturer The Comfy Cow has voluntarily recalled pints of nine different flavors of ice cream and the three-gallon container of its Georgia Butter Pecan.

According to the recall announcement from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, the results of a routine product test were either positive for E. coli or showed high counts of coliform.

As a result, The Comfy Cow has issued a recall of pints of Banana Puddin Y’all, Chocolate Squared2, Cookies and Cream, Cow Trax, Double Fold Vanilla, Georgia Butter Pecan, Intense Dark Chocolate, Salted Caramel and Strawberry Fields Forever — in addition to the three-gallon container of the pecan flavor.

“The Comfy Cow is taking this voluntary precautionary measure in order to ensure complete consumer safety. Our top priority is guaranteeing the safety of all our loyal customers,” Tim Koons-McGee, chief executive of The Comfy Cow, said in a statement.

The company has also removed those flavors from its ice cream shops.

The pints affected were distributed between June 13 and July 21 in retail stores in Kentucky, Missouri, Indiana and Tennessee, the recall announcement states.

The announcement encourages consumers to throw the product away or return it to the retail store they purchased it from to get a refund. Customers with questions also can contact the company at (502) 384-2556.

No illnesses have been reported to-date. E. coli can cause diarrhea and dehydration, and while most people recover, it can be deadly.

The company started selling its ice cream in retail stores back in 2015 after opening a $2 million production facility. It sources the majority of its ingredients from Kentucky. In May, The Comfy Cow apologized to its customers for a shortage of its premium product.

In June, another Louisville company Creation Gardens issued a voluntary recall for similar reasons. A routine test came back positive for E. coli. No illnesses had been reported in that case either.
