Woodford Reserve unveiled the details today of its highly regarded Distillery Series, the latest spin on the premium bourbon brand, and the products sound intriguing and promising.

The series was created for bourbon lovers who enjoy innovation and will include up to three expressions released by the Woodford Reserve Distillery throughout the year. The first two small-batch releases — Double Double Oaked and Sweet Mash Redux — will come out later this month and only be available at the distillery in Versailles, Ky.

Woodford Master Distiller Chris Morris has been working on the series for the last couple of years and believes he’s created bourbons and whiskeys that tap into the brand’s creative dexterity.

“With the Woodford Reserve Distillery Series, we used our industry and sensory knowledge to create an eclectic line of one-of-a-kind expressions,” said Morris in a press release. “By pushing the creative boundaries of whiskeys even further, we are inviting our customers who visit our distillery to experience extreme variations of whiskey.”

The first two releases are the only straight bourbons of the Distillery Series.

The Double Double Oaked takes a finished Woodford Double Oaked and matures it for an additional year in its second, heavily toasted/lightly charred new oak barrel. As a fan of the original spicy-sweet Double Oaked, my mouth is watering just thinking about what an extra year of aging will add to its flavor profile.

The Sweet Mash Redux is a throwback to Woodford’s 2008 Master’s Collection that featured a Sweet Mash Finish, and by modifying the fermentation process to include a non-sour mash (as opposed to the regular sour mash), the bourbon should have prominent notes of fruit and herbs.

Bottles of the Double Double Oaked and Sweet Mash Redux will be available at the distillery in late July. The suggested retail price for a 375ml bottle is $49.99. For more information and directions to the distillery, click here.
