Next week’s Greater Louisville Inc. Business at Breakfast Acclaimed Speaker Series welcomes Major General Jefforey A. Smith, Commanding General U.S. Army Cadet Command and Fort Knox KY.

This Business at Breakfast event is actually at lunch this month. It is at the Marriott downtown on August 5 at 11:30 a.m.

Major General Smith will discuss recent changes at Fort Knox including the regional impact of the base, new innovations in the base’s operations, budget reductions and public partnerships. He’ll also share his expertise in leadership development both on and off the base.

Major General Jefforey A. Smith entered active duty in 1983.  His Army career began at Fort Bragg and in his early career he was deployed with the Multinational Force and Observers peacekeeping mission to the Sinai peninsula to observe the Treaty of Peace between Egypt and Israel.

Major General Smith was deployed for Operations Desert Shield, Desert Storm and Joint Guardian in Kosovo.

Major General Smith commanded 3rd Brigade, 82nd Airborne Division leading the brigade combat team in Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom.  He served as the Assistant Commanding General for Police Development, NATO Training Mission-Afghanistan/Combined Security Transition Command-Afghanistan, Operation Enduring Freedom.

Major General Smith holds a Bachelor of Science degree, a Master of Science in Administration degree and is a graduate of the U.S. Army War College and holds a master’s degree in National Security and Strategic Studies.  His significant awards and decorations include three Defense Superior Service Medals, two Legions of Merit, three Bronze Star Medals, six Meritorious Service Medals, Humanitarian Service Medal, Office of the Secretary of Defense Identification Badge, Combat Infantryman Badge (with Star), Expert Infantryman Badge, Master Parachutist Badge, Air Assault Badge and Ranger Tab.
