Last winter, Insider Louisville set out to become the city’s first all digital nonprofit news source. Out of the gate, almost 300 of our loyal readers came on board to help support our critical mission to bring more high-quality, sustainable local journalism to the community. The community support we received so far has enabled our team to add a dedicated education reporter and a dedicated healthcare reporter. And we were able to expand coverage on other crucial topics that resulted in the largest readership in the history of Insider Louisville, engaging over 600,000 unique readers in the first quarter of 2018!
Our goal this spring is to increase reader participation to over 1,000 members! To do that, we need daily readers like you to step up and make this happen.
Will you join our mission? Here are some reasons why we think you should:
1. Your support will keep us going.
Community support enables us keep the lights on and maintain a laser focus on community issues that other local media sources don’t address. Your support will keep the watchful eyes of our reporters on the government and business leaders in our community whose daily activities and decisions impact all of us. Your support will also enable us to continue to add more voices to our editorial staff and expand coverage of more crucial topics to regions of our community that are currently under-served by local media. We will hire reporters who are immersed in neighborhoods like Shawnee, the South End, Portland, Southern Indiana and others so that their voices are heard.
2. Your support will help nurture the city’s arts and culture.
We understand that quality of life is the key to a successful and vibrant city. With community support, we will expand coverage of Louisville’s rich and diverse art and culture scene, something that is being done less and less by other local media outlets. Whether we’re showcasing plays, exhibits or art fairs, Insider Louisville will let you in on what cultural events are going on around the city and what’s being created by local artists.
3. Advertisers will never control your reading experience.
A community-supported site doesn’t have to run annoying pop-up ads or try to woo page clicks with headlines that lead you down the path of page-clicking purgatory. We respect you as a valued reader and advocate for our community and don’t count your visits as an “ad impression.” What we do, and want to continue to do, is give you the stories that matter to you the most. Our mission is to deliver carefully researched, non-partisan, public service-oriented, local journalism that holds local powerbrokers accountable. That never happens when advertisers call the shots!
4. You’ll get special treatment.
As a member, you will receive early invitations to all Insider Louisville events—monthly meetups, symposiums, pop-up events and ongoing opportunities to interact with our staff and help shape our mission. You will also receive our popular “Business Briefing” newsletters a full 10 hours before the rest of the city!
5. You’ll get free art!
Become a member and start your collection of unique local art! As part of our mission to bolster our local arts scene, if you become a member today we will give you this 18″ X 24″ signed limited edition poster, commissioned by Insider Louisville and created by local artist Ron Jasin. As the Washington Post slogan goes, “democracy dies in darkness.” We take this to heart and feel the imagery portrayed in this unique graphic speaks for itself.
