As it has done only three times prior, Bellarmine University will officially install a new president, Susan M. Donovan, on Friday, Oct. 27.

After a global search, the university announced Donovan’s appointment in February. She began her new role in June after a 32-year career at Loyola University in Maryland.

Inauguration day will begin with a morning mass at St. Agnes Church, followed by a 2 p.m. inauguration ceremony in Knights Hall, according to Bellarmine.

Classes are canceled on inauguration day as students, faculty, staff, alumni, parents and board members have been invited to attend. The inauguration ceremony will also be broadcast live at bellarmine.edu/inauguration.

The inauguration ceremony will formally install Donovan as Bellarmine’s fourth president, following Monsignor Alfred F. Horrigan (1950-1972), Dr. Eugene V. Petrik (1973-1990) and Dr. Joseph J. McGowan, Jr. (1990-2016).

In a statement, Donovan said: “I consider it a privilege to accept the responsibility to lead Bellarmine forward to even greater prominence and impact in the local, regional and global society.”

The Catholic institution is setting aside the whole week to celebrate the inauguration, with the following events:

Monday, Oct. 23: Dare to Care service opportunity with students at 10 a.m., an undergraduate student reception at 4:30 p.m. and graduate student reception at 5 p.m.
