New information is surfacing about the driver accused of using a tractor-trailer to illegally transport undocumented immigrants into the country, which resulted in 10 deaths.

The San Antonio Express-News has reported that 60-year-old James Matthew Bradley Jr.’s most recent address was in Louisville, according to public records and his most recent employer, Pyle Transportation of Iowa.

Bradley faced a federal judge in Texas on Monday and is charged with knowingly transporting undocumented immigrants.

Bradley’s trailer was found packed with immigrants outside a Walmart in San Antonio. Officials said eight people inside the trailer were dead when the truck was found early Sunday. Two more people have died after being hospitalized.

According to the Express-News, Bradley’s fiancee, Darnisha Rose, also has Louisville ties.

Rose told reporters that Bradley “had no idea” how the immigrants got inside the tractor-trailer.

“I just can’t believe it. I’m stunned, shocked. He is too good a person to do anything like this,” Rose told the Express-News. “He helps people. He doesn’t hurt people.”

The human trafficking charge Bradley faces carries a maximum life sentence and the possibility of a death sentence.

Bradley has a bail hearing Thursday, at which his prior criminal history could come into play.

The Express-News reports prosecutors are expected to label Bradley a danger to the community and a flight risk because of a criminal history that dates back to the late 1990s.
