Dog house by Billie Bradford
This dog house by Billie Bradford will be featured at Barkitecture on Saturday, May 14.

Louisville Metro Animal Services is hoping for some innovative dog house designs at its inaugural Barkitecture event on Saturday, May 14. The goal is to help raise awareness of the plight of homeless dogs and cats, and organizers anticipate a curious public who might want to check out unique, one-of-a-kind structures for dogs.

Participants are invited to submit completed dog houses in several categories, and those attending will be able to bid on the houses in a silent auction. All proceeds go to the Capital Campaign Fund for a new LMAS facility.

barkitectureThe free event takes place from noon-6 p.m. at Willow Park in the Highlands (1402 Willow Ave.). And along with dozens of crazy dog houses, there will be adoptable dogs and cats on hand to hopefully catch your eye and find a forever home.

Depending on how this first Barkitecture goes, organizers would like to expand the event to include living and play structures for cats as well.
