Police bodycam video was released Thursday after an LMPD officer shot a man Wednesday in the Russell neighborhood.

A neighbor said she called police because a man appeared to be doing drugs outside a home near Magazine and 26th streets, according to police.

When three First Division officers arrived, the neighbor told them the man had gone into a vacant house.

According to LMPD Chief Steve Conrad, Officers Sarah Stumler, Aaron Seneker and Braden Lammers went into the house and announced their presence multiple times while searching the house.

Chief Conrad said as officers were leaving the house, Stumler, 34, noticed Bruce Warrick, 38, hiding behind a mattress that was leaning against a wall in the front living room area.

On her bodycam video, Stumler can be heard shouting, “Show me your hands” and firing one shot seconds later. Warrick was still behind the mattress when he was shot in the abdomen.

Warrick was taken to University Hospital, where he had surgery and is still hospitalized in the Intensive Care Unit.

Stumler has been relieved of her police powers, pending the outcome of an investigation by the Public Integrity Unit.

No weapon was found in the house during a search Wednesday.
