In the past two days, Southwest Airlines and Allegiant Air both committed to offer new nonstop flights out of Louisville International Airport.

Beginning June 6, Allegiant will offer flights on Wednesdays and Saturdays to and from Myrtle Beach. One-way fares cost as little as $52, though passengers must pay for extras such as checked bags.

“Area travelers have embraced Allegiant’s low fares and attractive vacation packages, and we are confident that these new flights to Myrtle Beach will be well-received by leisure flyers from across the region,” Dan Mann, executive director of the Louisville Regional Airport Authority, said in a news release.

Starting on Oct. 3, Southwest Airlines will fly a daily nonstop route between Louisville and Houston’s William P. Hobby Airport. The cost of two checked bags is rolled into the airline’s ticket prices, which start around $100 for a one-way fare.

“This midday departure is perfectly timed for travelers bound for Texas, the South Central U.S. and cities in the west,” Mann said in a separate news release.

The new Allegiant and Southwest flights are the 10th and 11th new routes added from Louisville International Airport in the past 14 months.

“Passenger air service remains our focus, and these announcements would not be possible without the community’s strong support. I’d like to especially thank the dedicated efforts of the Louisville Regional Airlift Development Inc. for their commitment as we continue to increase flight options from Louisville International,” Mann said.

The Louisville Regional Airlift Development (LRAD) is a nonprofit founded to help attract new nonstop flights using incentives. The organization has been raising public and private funding to subsidize new flights that might not otherwise come to Louisville International Airport. LRAD officials are targeting nonstop flights with Los Angeles and Boston.

Southwest alone offers daily nonstop flights to Baltimore, Chicago-Midway, Denver, Las Vegas, Orlando, Phoenix and Tampa. Allegiant has nine nonstop flights from Louisville to Las Vegas, Destin, Daytona Beach, Fort Lauderdale, Orlando, Phoenix, Hilton Head, Fort Myers and Tampa, though they are not daily.

In total, seven airlines offering flights to 30 nonstop destinations from Louisville International Airport. People can also reach 170 international destinations with one stop.
