The family of fallen Louisville Metro Police Department Det. Deidre Mengedoht has filed a lawsuit against MSD and the former employee who crashed into her cruiser.
The lawsuit filed Friday against Roger Burdette and the Louisville Metropolitan Sewer District seeks damages, lost wages and funeral expenses.
Police said Burdette was driving under the influence of prescription medication when his MSD semi crashed into the back of Mengedoht’s car on I-64 as she was conducting a traffic stop on Christmas Eve. Burdette has pleaded not guilty to the charges of murder and driving under the influence.
Burdette is no longer employed by MSD, which said it would not comment on the lawsuit. He’s being held at Metro Corrections on a $200,000 bond. Earlier this week, his attorney’s request for a bond reduction was denied. Following the hearing, the judge found probable cause to send the matter to a grand jury. The case will be heard in February.
