How are you doing with those resolutions, Louisville?

I have to admit, I’m cheating a little. I’m joining a rigorous diet and exercise program — but it doesn’t start until Jan. 15 — so I’m pretty much living like it’s still 2013.

Maybe you’ve had a tough time kickstarting your new, better habits. Or maybe you haven’t but you really need a little detox time after the holiday excesses.

Shine, a wellness studio in NuLu, is offering a day-long “Urban Retreat” on Sunday, Jan. 5, from 7:30 a.m. until 8:30 p.m. You don’t have to attend the whole day; the retreat offers nine classes, and you can pick and choose.

The all-day pass is $125. You can also purchase individual workshops (1 for $25, 2 for $40, 3 for $55, or 5 for $90).

All of this is to help fund the new Shine space — well, and to help you feel good in the new year, of course.

Shine is moving just a block east to 826 Main St. on March 1.

“Shine will have two studios to be able to offer more movement classes,” says Maria Whitley, Shine’s owner and creative director. “And we will share the building with an acupuncture clinic and healing center that will offer massage and other amazing bodywork. And… the building will be called Nu U (new you)!”

In addition to the Jan. 5 event, Shine is also offering a special for new students: $13 for 13 consecutive days of regularly scheduled classes. (Needless to say, the Urban Retreat isn’t a “regularly scheduled class.”)

7:30 – 8:45 a.m.
52 Sun Salutations & Morning Meditation with Christine Saladino 
Begin the day with an invigorating greeting to the sun and the New Year — honoring the 52 weeks of 2014 and a bow to Natural Time.

8:50 – 10:05 a.m.
Niyama & Yin Flow with Anne Borders
Join Anne Borders for an exploration of the Yogic Niyamas or “observances” and let your body melt and soften with a delicious Yin Flow class. Yin Yoga focuses on the connective tissue in your body and is deeply relaxing and nurturing.

10:15 – 11:30 a.m.
Hanuman Workshop with Sarah Shaheen 
Take a leap into the New Year with Hanuman – a mythological monkey with super powers, who authentically takes the form of whatever self is most needed for the situation. Allow yourself to play with the many ways you can experience yourself, and begin the New Year with the resilience that play brings into your life!

Yoga Hoop Dance class with Angie Florence 
Experience the fitness fusion of Hoop Dance Yoga. Hooping – a fun and fantastic way to tighten and tone your body, while providing a low impact cardio workout – is combined magically by Angie Florence with the delicious centering power of yoga as you create your sacred circle with the hoop. All levels are welcome (yes, even if you haven’t hooped since you were 10!).

2:30 – 3:45 p.m. 
Nia Playshop with Maria Whitley & Casey Emrich
Increase your fitness potential by incorporating Sounding into your practice. Improve your breathing, relax and tone your diaphragm (a huge component of lymphatic health!), and work your core in the deepest way! No Nia experience or singing ability required!

4:00 – 5:15 p.m.
Awakening Mula Bandha with Ann Taylor Lashbrook
Move Beyond Your “Low Abs” to Creating a Functional Core & Pelvic Floor
Did you know you don’t have “low abs?” In this workshop we will use the Yoga Tune Up® Coregeous® to massage and activate the deepest tissues of your core and begin to awaken Mula Bandha, the yogic root lock which activates the tissue of your pelvic floor. We will enliven our entire core structure while broadening our view of “ripped abs” to envision the powerhouse of our body covered with a corset and booty shorts! We will investigate the variety of tissue that supports the mid line of the body including but not limited to your transversus abdominis, adductors (inner thighs), pelvic floor, and gluteal muscles. You will leave this workshop able to integrate these tissue in all your movement — yoga asana, athletics, dance, or everyday activities.

5:30 – 6:45 p.m. 
Divine Sexuality with Loren Crawford 
Whether you are currently in an intimate relationship or preparing for one, join Sat Sandesh Kaur/Loren Crawford as she shares ancient yogic teachings about men, women, sexuality and the divine. She will draw upon the rich legacy of lifestyle guidance available to Kundalini Yogis. In this workshop you will receive information about the differences between the male and female experience of sex, the yogic perspective on relationships, rejuvenating one’s sexual health and rebuilding intimacy. We will experience meditations and exercises that support communication and strengthen the energetic bond between partners. Come with your intimate partner or a friend or by yourself!

Yogi tea will be served. Each participant will receive handouts of the yoga and meditations we practice in class, as well as recipes and other helpful and healthful information to support our divine sexuality.

7 – 8:15 p.m.
Yoga Nidra with Susan Schroeder
Yoga Nidra means Yogic Sleep — Keep yourself grounded and balanced as we move into this New Year with this powerful guided meditation. As you relax through your physical, vital, and emotional bodies you are able to release deep-seated behaviors or thought patterns with your awareness. At your most relaxed state you will repeat a sankalpa, or healing intention, to your subconscious, enabling new habits to grow roots becoming conscious action. Come ready to relax, release and renew yourself from the inside out!
